What is Dalcroze Eurhythmics?

Dalcroze Eurhythmics is a method developed in the early 20th century by Swiss musician and educator Emile Jaques-Dalcroze to teach music to his students, provide them with a solid rhythmic foundation and enhance their musical expression. Movement is a key component of the Dalcroze Eurhythmics education, as it allows the student to gain physical awareness and reinforce rhythmic concepts kinesthetically.
This comprehensive approach consists of three components: Eurhythmics, which teaches concepts of rhythm, structure, and musical expression through movement; Solfège, which develops an understanding of pitch, scale, and tonality through activities emphasizing aural comprehension and vocal improvisation; and Improvisation, which develops an understanding of form and meaning through spontaneous musical creation using movement, voice and instruments.
New England's master teacher Lisa Parker (Diplôme Supérieur) demonstrates some of the basics of Dalcroze Eurhythmics.
